Compute Support
Support for compute at Empa is provided at two levels: general support from Empa Scientific IT, and system-specific support directly from the providers, for example CSCS or ETH Zürich.
Support from Empa Scientific IT
Section titled “Support from Empa Scientific IT”We are your first point of contact for all compute-related questions, covering the full range from national supercomputing infrastructure to your Empa workstation. We assist Empa researchers with:
- Getting access to the CSCS supercomputers and the Euler cluster at ETH Zürich.
- Estimating the compute needs of your project and finding the right compute resource for it.
- Setting up, configuring, and running high-performance code on your Empa workstation, on local compute, or on the supercomputers.
- Finding the right storage solution for your data on our data storage service.
- Installing and configuring software tools.
- Solving technical compute problems and supporting long-term compute projects.
To get in touch, please refer to the contact page: send an e-mail to compute@empa.ch, or book a meeting with us to discuss your compute needs.
Support from the compute providers
Section titled “Support from the compute providers”We are also there to help you with technical problems on the providers’ systems, for example software that does not compile or jobs that do not run. If you need direct support from a provider, their main support channels are listed below. All links and resources for each provider are collected on our CSCS and Euler pages.
- CSCS: for technical issues with CSCS systems, for example software that does not compile, simulations that do not run, or access to their Kubernetes clusters, please create a ticket in the CSCS ticketing system. For system status and maintenance windows, check the CSCS status portal.
- ETH Zürich: for technical issues with Euler, for example jobs that do not run or account problems, please contact the ETH Zürich HPC support or check their FAQ. For system status and maintenance windows, check the Euler system status page.
